Why Nebraska?
I chose Nebraska because a building there has to live through almost everything the United States and Canada can throw at it.
It has hit 118 degrees above zero and 47 below. Wind chills drop past 60 below. Tornadoes tear across the ground, and the summers get heavy with humidity.
On a climate-zone map, Nebraska looks simple. In real life, a building there faces weather from nearly every climate zone we have.
But Nebraska could be anywhere. Hammerdahl happens to be in Nebraska. It could be in your backyard. Wherever you live, the lesson is the same: build for the worst weather your own place can throw at you, not the average day.
Brian Iverson
Brian Iverson started in construction at 14. He earned a two-year degree in architecture and civil engineering from a vocational-technical school, came up through the trades as a journeyman finish carpenter, spent four years finishing drywall full time, and is a Minnesota Certified Energy Auditor.
Over fifty-two years he has designed more than 750 buildings that got built, developed roughly 3,000 acres of land, built 24 miles of road, completed more than 300 remodels, and closed more than 3,000 real estate transactions. He designs for the actual conditions and extremes of each location, not the average day.
He is the inventor of the Tstud™ technology, along with WarmStud™, DrainStrip™, and the Thermal Studs Ultimate Panel System™.
Brian founded Carbonless, a Minnesota 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit, to preserve what he has learned in field guides, books, and courses so the next builder does not have to learn it the hard way.
